The Department of Student Services encompasses services for students identified as: At-Risk, Crossroads for Youth, English as a Second Language, Homebound, Homeless, Section 504, and Special Education.
At-Risk: The Response to Intervention (RtI) team is a problem-solving process that may be used by teachers and parents to help address learning or behavioral differences. At the RtI meeting, specific learning challenges are identified and intervention strategies are decided upon. The RtI team may reconvene as many times as necessary to resolve the concern.
Section 504: The district provides evluations for students who are suspected of having a disability under Section 504. If the intent of the evaluation is to determine eligibility for accommodations under Section 504, parental notice is required prior to the evaluation. Following the Section 504 evaluation, a team meeting is held to review the evaluation data and develop appropriate accommodations.
Special Education: We offer a full continuum of programs and service options designed to meet the individual needs of eligible students with disabilities from birth through age 25. While emphasis is placed on education of all students in the least restrictive setting to the maximum extent appropriate, placement decisions are based on individual student needs and desired outcomes. Developing a healthy partnership with the family is important and must be embedded in the Individual Educational Planning Team (IEPT) process.
