I believe that music encourages people to believe in themselves as capable, creative, and compassionate individuals whose contribution makes a difference.  Music is a way to know the world.  It is a part of our daily lives and our heritage.  When students participate in authentic musical activity derived from performing real music, they learn to solve real musical problems, which is the only way children gain access to a legitimate musical practice and become a life-long learner.

Since 2002, I’ve been honored to be the vocal music director for three choirs.  They are active performance ensembles that not only create memorable concerts, but also get out into the community to “SPREAD SOME SUNSHINE”.  The choirs actively participate in the MSVMA Solo & Ensemble Festival, Choral Festival, and Honors Choir.

I also direct three after school World Music Drumming and Marimbas performance ensembles that enjoy learning  music primarily from Africa and the Caribbean.  We actively compose our own music – as time permits – and love to share our music.

Prior to my employment at Oxford Middle School, I actively accompanied musical and numerous stage Broadway productions.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education K-12 certification from Oakland University, Magna Cum Laude in 2001.

As an educator, it’s important to be part of professional organizations.  I’m currently a member of the Music Educator’s National Conference (MENC) and the Michigan Schools Vocal Music Association.

While a student at Oakland University, I earned the MATILDA Award in piano performance.  Once employed at Oxford Middle School, I earned the Michigan Association of Schools Boards (MASB) Fine Arts Award for Excellence for our World Music Drumming and Marimbas program.  Our choirs consistently earn excellent ratings for Choral Festival.

During relaxing moments, my life is rich and full with wonderful family experiences.  I love to spend time outside, riding my bike, hiking, and enjoying the beauty of our family.
