School Safety and Security
School safety is defined as schools and school-related activities where students are safe from violence, bullying, harassment, and substance use. Safe schools promote the protection from violence, exposure to weapons and threats, theft, bullying, and the sale of or use of illegal substances on school grounds. – National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments
We have a District Safety Committee comprised of community officials, emergency responders, district personnel, parents, and community members that meets quarterly to identify and implement district safeguards. Additionally, we have a Parent Safety Advisory Board comprised of parents across the district who serve in an advisory capacity as all members have backgrounds in school safety and/or security.
Our team continues to review and enhance all school safety and security initiatives. This is ongoing and ever-changing as new research emerges and the development of best-practices.
Safety and security is everyone’s responsibility and communication is the most powerful tool we can use. Please keep an open line of communication between you and your child(ren). Ensure your child knows to tell a trusted adult immediately if they feel their school is threatened in any way. Additionally, talk with your child about emergency procedures for home and for school, monitor your child’s social media use, and keep all firearms secure.
We need the help of the entire community to keep our schools safe. Please report any concerning information to your child’s school or use the OK2SAY resources: call 1-855-565-2729, text 652729, email Email OK2Say, or visit the OK2Say Website.
