February 22, DA Positive COVID-19 Case

February 22, 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We recently confirmed a COVID-19 case at Daniel Axford Elementary. The positive case is a staff member who was last present in school on February 19. Parents of students in the affected classroom were already contacted directly. This case resulted in a small number of students being quarantined at Daniel Axford.

If you did not receive a call from Mr. Boyd today directing you to quarantine, your child may continue to attend school as normally scheduled.

COVID-19 is a contagious viral illness that spreads in the air through coughing, sneezing, and talking. Recent information suggests COVID-19 is spread by people who are not showing symptoms. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

Please watch your child for any symptoms of COVID-19 through March 4. If your child does develop symptoms, we urge you to get your child tested for COVID-19. Testing locations can be found using the COVID-19 Test Finder athttps://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 or is symptomatic and you do not wish to have them tested, keep him or her at home until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours and it has been more than ten days since the initial onset of symptoms.

For additional information regarding COVID-19, please visit the OCHD website athttps://www.oakgov.com/health. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Principal Boyd at (248) 969-5048.

Sincerely,

Jill Lemond
