Sept. 23 OMS COVID Case - No Exposure

Good morning,

Late yesterday afternoon, it was communicated to us by the Oakland County Health Division that we have a confirmed COVID-19 case at Oxford Middle School.  Fortunately, this positive case--a student--has not been in attendance at OMS for several days and was not in the building during the 48-hour period prior to symptom onset. Another Oxford student case was also confirmed having recently tested positive. This student attends Oxford Bridges High School on the OMS campus and lives in the same household as the OMS case. Similarly, this student has not been in school for many days and was not present during the 48-hour period prior to symptom onset. In both case investigations, the health department determined that there were no exposures at school and no close contacts to inform or quarantine. As a point of clarification, this is not a campus outbreak as the cases share a residence.

We are grateful to our families for communicating with us and following quarantine protocol by keeping students home if they are exposed to a positive case. We recognize that 14 days of quarantine is lengthy and inconvenient.  However, observing this important protocol helps keep our entire community safe by mitigating asymptomatic transmission at school. We appreciate the continual honest, open dialogue with our families as we work together to navigate school attendance during these unprecedented times. If you are ever in doubt, please err on the side of caution and keep your student home.

Keep up the great work, Wildcats!
