Notice and Application for School Board Vacancy

Please take notice that due to the resignation of Mary Hanser and Heather Shafer, effective June 12, 2024, two (2) seats are vacant on the Oxford Board of Education's seven (7) member board.    

The State of Michigan General School Laws state that board member vacancies shall be filled within 30 days from the effective date of a resignation.  Each vacancy shall be filled with a legally qualified person who is appointed by vote of the remaining members of the board at a regular or special meeting of the board.  Each person appointed to fill a vacancy shall file acceptance of the office with the secretary of the board and shall take the oath of office as prescribed by law.

QUALIFICATIONS:
U. S. Citizen, 18 years of age, registered voter, and resident of the Oxford Community School District.

TERM OF OFFICE:

The terms of office for the two vacancies are different as outlined below.  On the application, applicants must select whether they wish to apply to one or both of the vacancies.  

Vacancy A - Appointee shall serve on the Board of Education until December 31, 2024.

Vacancy B - Appointee shall serve on the Board of Education until November, 2024, after the election results are certified.

INTERVIEW & APPOINTMENT PROCESS: 

At a special board meeting on July 8, 2024, the board will review each completed application, select applicants for public interview, conduct interviews with the selected candidates, and vote on candidates to fill the two vacancies.  

The appointments will begin at the regularly scheduled board meeting on July 9, 2024.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

A complete application will consist of three parts submitted to the superintendent via email to [email protected]:

Application deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications can also be picked up and submitted to the office of the superintendent at the Oxford Schools’ Board of Education office, 10 N. Washington St., Oxford, MI  48371, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
