June 8, Air Quality Alert

Dear Oxford Families,

We are currently under a National Weather Service Air Quality Alert due to the smoke from the Canadian wildfires.  The current air quality in Oxford is at PM 2.5 which is deemed unhealthy for sensitive groups and is expected to worsen today with some hourly concentrations reaching an unhealthy level for everyone.

The current recommendations for children, teens, people with heart or lung disease and older adults to reduce exposure and harm of the pollutants are to:

  • Avoid strenuous activities.
  • Keep outdoor activities short.
  • Consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them.

For the health and safety of our students, we have limited and/or moved outdoor activities inside today.  Our building HVAC systems will help reduce the particulates from the smoke inside as well.  At this time, the forecast indicates the levels are supposed to improve by tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Dr. Vickie L. Markavitch
