April 10, Update on Drahner Property Fire

Dear Oxford Schools Community,

We are writing with an update on the fire at the Drahner Road Property. The fire was put out late last night. No one was injured and the fire was contained to the large group meeting/community area of the building with smoke and water damage to the other spaces. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Nothing has been found that leads the fire department to believe it was an intentionally set fire at this time. We want to thank the first responders who responded to the fire!

The Drahner Road property was set to welcome three of our schools and student programs this spring and summer including Oxford Virtual Academy (OVA), Oxford Bridges High School and our LOFT Program (adult transition program). This is a setback for these schools and programs.

We will work with structural engineers to ensure the building’s structure is safe and will begin the restoration process as we will aim to have the building ready for these programs by the fall and the start of the new school year.

We know that the unexpectedness of this event and the heavy emergency vehicle presence in the area during the response to the fire may have been activating. We also know that if you live near the Drahner Road property or you happened to be near there, the heavy emergency vehicle presence may have been activating as well.

We want to ensure our school community has the necessary support at this time. Please see the list below of services that are available to any of us - students, families, and staff.
