August 30, Introducing Parent University

Dear Oxford Parents and Caregivers,

We are pleased to announce the launch of our Parent University! One of our goals under community outreach in our recovery plan is to ‘provide education and increase engagement’ by helping to equip our parents and caregivers with knowledge and tools to help their child(ren) thrive!

Parent University is a series of workshops, videos, one-page resources, and collaborative opportunities for parents/caregivers (and sometimes students) that help them learn about various educational topics and how to support their children. Most opportunities will be for parents and caregivers only, but some will offer an opportunity for you to bring your child. If that is the case, it will be noted.

The workshops are open to parents and caregivers of any of our Oxford schools, regardless of the workshop’s location. For example, the session on bullying is being held at Oxford Middle School (OMS), and it is open to all of our elementary, middle school, and high school families district-wide, including OVA.

The district will send out a SchoolMessenger email each month with details on the upcoming month’s workshops. All planned workshops can be found on our Parent University Page on our website. Throughout the year, additional workshops will be added to the webpage listing as details are confirmed. Many workshops have been planned based on current events and needs as well as keeping the Recovery Plan in mind. Along with these items, we want to be responsive to the needs of our community and want to help plan opportunities that help you feel empowered and equipped to help your child thrive in school! If you have any ideas, please share them with us through this Workshop suggestion form.

Registration is needed for participation in the workshops and will close three days prior to the event. Registration links will be posted on the website and within the monthly flier. A minimum of 5 people need to be registered for the workshop to be held. If a workshop needs to be canceled due to low enrollment, an email will be sent to the registrants.

We are excited to begin Parent University in September with the following workshop opportunities:
