Feb.8, PreK For All Program Information

Dear Oxford Families,

As you may be aware, Governor Whitmer has launched an initiative to provide Free Universal Preschool for all 4-year-olds by the year 2027.  This program, which is called PreK for All, is considered an expansion of the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP). GSRP is fully funded by the state of Michigan and currently available to families who meet qualifying factors, specifically certain income requirements.  Moving forward, the state plans to remove the income cap as a qualifying factor which will then result in preschool being offered free of charge for all students who will be 4 years old by the required cutoff date.

Although the initial time frame was for PreK for All to begin in 2027, the state released an implementation brief that indicates the possibility of funding being available as early as the 2024-25 school year.  As a district, we are committed to setting up a structure, so we are prepared to move forward with offering this free 4-year-old preschool program to as many families as possible. If the state does not move forward in the fall, program offerings will remain the same for the 2024-2025 school year.

PreK for All would be a FREE preschool program for all students who would turn 4 years old on or before December 1.  It would be offered through the Oxford Early Learning Center and classrooms would be located around the district.  The program would run either 4 or 5 full days per week and follow the typical elementary calendar.  Class size would be a max of 20 students with 2 staff members: a lead teacher and an assistant.

Research studies have proven the long-term implications on the success of children who participate in effective early childhood programs.  Oxford Community Schools currently offers high-quality early childhood educational programs, and we are excited at the potential of expansion that the PreK for All program will allow us to provide to our community.

If you are interested in signing your child up for this program, we need you to fill out the Google Form so we can gather contact information.  PLEASE NOTE: this is not an official registration form, rather an opportunity for us to understand the potential need in our community. You will be notified from the OELC office when more detailed information from the state is made available and we know as a district that we are able to move forward.

Please take the time to express your interest using this form.

Please spread the word to your neighbors and friends within the community! Share this form with them too. Additionally, we are interested in understanding future projections. If you have a child (or know of a family) who will turn 4 years old in 2024, 2025, 2026, etc., we would love to know! There will be a spot to indicate that on the form.

Feel free to contact the OELC office at 248-969-5047 or [email protected] with questions.
